Research this Summer

Well some of you know a little of my schedule this summer. I was able to get a job at a local PT clinic as an aid and gain some hours for my future PA school application plus a little bit of money. They just don't pay as much money as my wife and I need but what job really does. I work about 25 hours a week there. On Tuesday and Thursday I have been able to be part of Dr. James Porter's research team for 8 hours a week. It has been really fun and interesting. Let me give you the down low on what we are doing and his goal in his research. The first day of research we killed 10 rats and removed their hearts, kidneys, adrenal glands, pituitary glands for more research later. He has found that rats whose mom's were given high salt diets had much higher increases in blood pressure under stressful situations than rats whose mom's were given normal salt diets. Right now we are discovering and proving why this is occurring. On Thursday two rats died. We were doing surgery on them to implant a blood pressure monitor into their belly and for some reason there were some complications and they died. Anyway it is very interesting but would not want to do it my whole life and that is why I will be a PA and not a researcher.

Shootin' Up!

This past week we learned how to give shots! It's actually way fun. We have injected each other with saline in the deltoid, the abdomen, the fatty part of the back of the arm, the forearm, and the booty! We had pass-offs today so on Tuesday I went to open lab to practice and you only get 30 minutes which isn't nearly enough time. But luckily I was able to convince my wonderful husband to come with me so I could inject him four times! He was quite the trooper. Unfortunately, I forgot our camera every time I was in lab and didn't get any pictures. But these here are from other girls in my section. Hopefully it gives you a sense of what class is like.

These are all the girls in my lab. There's seven of us including myself and we have two instructors. Notice the tannish brown thing towards the front of the bed. Yup, that's a fake toosh.

What is the World Coming To?

So my wife and I purchased the Nike Runner program. It is probably one of the coolest gadgets in the world. It tracks how far, your pace, and sets up personal training programs for you. It seriously has changed my outlook on running and I love running now and it has kind of become addicted which I never ever thought possible. Thats not the reason I am writing this blog. As many of you know I live in South Provo while my wife and I go to BYU. On Saturday I started out for a 6 mile jog, I was warming up and arrived at the corner of University Ave and our street. A SUV drove by and a kid yelled at the top of his lungs, "F*&$ You". Now I was thinking, what did I do that would have drove this young man to such anger and profanity. As I thought for a few minutes, there was absolutely nothing I did to piss him off. What is the world coming to when you go for a short morning run and get the F word screamed at you.

JIMMY AND PARAMORE WERE ROCKIN

Last night my buddy and I (Jarom Jordan, famous for his basketball play by play call on The Best Damn Sports Show) went to Jimmy Eat World and Paramore in concert. I tried to put a video of their music but on youtube you can type in either name and multiple videos will come up. Both bands were great. I had never seen them in concert and both rocked. Speaking of rock concerts, some of you probably have heard of the mosh pit. Its basically this pit in the middle of hundreds of people that opens up where crazy people let their bodies bash into one another. It sounds stupid but for those who have dared to enter, its a blast. I went into the mosh pit during Paramore's song Misery Business and wow it was nuts. I got shoved and lost my balance and slammed into the shoulder of a kid right on my face. It almost knocked me out. Then I had a girls tooth jam into my head. I am short and she is tall. Needless to say it was the end of the moshing for me for the night. It was a blast. Here some pics, ENJOY. I am NOT STONED just tired as heck.
